Mandaramnuwara

Mandaram Nuwara is a tiny village which sits at the foot of the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka, Pidurutalagala, located within the Central Province of the island. It is also commonly referred to as the “Misty City” as a result of being shadowed by adjacent mountain ranges and is almost completely covered in mist most of the day. A short and easy hike away will find you at Kolapathana Ella, a waterfall that is popular amongst visitors to the little village.

With the morning mist and seamless presence of nature, Mandaram Nuwara nestles amidst a quaint land in which the concept of time is almost of no concern. Legends weave through the crossroads that lie at the feet of Piduruthalagala. Popular belief is that the village was known as ‘Mandaram Pura’ which was used as a hideout during the era of the Kandyan Kingdom.

Blessed with an abundance of nature, the rich soil is extremely fertilie. Systematically planted green patches of leeks, carrots and beans will be within your peripheral view as you explore the village by foot. The call of birds will resonate from the mist covered mountains above.

The terrain of Mandaram Nuwara is scattered with many streams that rush down a path strewn with rocks of different shapes and sizes. The irresistible temptation to jump into the clear natural water pools and blend in with the tranquillity of nature is indisputable.
